Emotional Processing refers to the way we cope with or absorb negative life events so they do not continue to affect our lives – perhaps an “emotional immune system”.  If this process is impeded, it could have an adverse affect on our psychological and physical health.

By publishing this website, the Dorset RDSU hopes to increase awareness of mind-body links in health and illness and encourage more research in the area of health and emotions, especially new research collaborations with the Dorset RDSU.  The site is aimed at clinicians, researchers, psychotherapists, counsellors, academics, patients, students, teachers; in fact, anyone with a computer!

The site blends a mixture of research articles and ideas, together with images, quotations and links to other websites.  There are features on emotional processing and physical health (including colorectal cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome), psychological therapies, psychological disorders, panic attacks, the role of crying and gender differences in emotional expression.  The articles have been produced by members of the Dorset RDSU and guest authors and new articles will be added in the future.

We hope you will take a look and find something of interest.  If you have any comments or contributions, or are interested in collaboration with the Dorset RDSU in this area, please ring 01202 448489 or email dawn.stevens@poole.nhs.uk
